São José dos Pinhais is one of the main cities in the state of Paraná, having shown significant growth in its economic and population matrix since the establishment of the automotive industry in the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba in the late 1990s. The municipality conducted a review of its Master Plan, with a set of Development Guidelines serving as inputs to consider the entirety of its territory – urban and rural areas, environmental and cultural heritage, socioeconomic and spatial dynamics. The proposed strategy focuses on specific guidelines for Preserved Nature spaces (highlighting the Serra do Mar), Shared Nature (rural and water catchment areas), and Urban Space (city). The enhancement of the Iguaçu riverfront as the new urban frontier of the municipality, and the creation of 'urban acupuncture' projects such as the new Market and the Aerovia/Rodoviário Terminal, bring visibility to various assets of the municipality and strengthen its identity.
