★ Project doubly awarded at the Global Architecture & Design Awards 2023, promoted by Rethinking The Future, being the winner of the Landscape Design (concept) category and the Third Prize in the Urban Design (concept) category. ★ Project awarded at the Design for a Better World Award 2023, in the Architecture and Cities category. ____ The Linear Park of Rio Barigui has 600 meters in length and connects Parque Barigui to the existing shopping mall, requalifying the riverbanks through the conservation and recovery of the riparian forest and the introduction of public amenities, as well as paths for pedestrians and cyclists within lush landscaping. The focus is on valuing the river's natural beauty and its integration into the city residents' lives. Currently under construction, the project aims to turn a previously neglected area into a vibrant urban front, connecting previously isolated areas and incorporating various recreational spaces to diversify the site's uses and create a new urban landmark for the region, enhancing the quality of life and well-being of the population. The park incorporates various recreational areas and amenities to diversify uses, including multiple communal areas, bike lanes, bike racks, outdoor fitness equipment, playground, dog park, sports court, benches, pergolas, treetop walkway, viewpoint, illuminated water features, and interactive dry fountain. Notably, red steel elements were integrated into the overall design, visually connecting the park to sections previously built by the municipality and contributing to the project's unique identity. The proposal embraces simple and expressive solutions, such as the proposed viewpoint: a semicircular walkway connecting three distinct points at the same elevation, providing visitors with a stroll through the treetops and panoramic views of the river. This symbolic element places the river at the center of urban life, underscoring its role in sustainability and environmental preservation. The park has positive impacts across various dimensions. Environmentally, it encourages integration between the built and natural environment, promotes biodiversity, encourages active mobility, and proposes the removal of irregular occupations. Socially, it creates an inclusive public area that celebrates local identity, strengthens community ties, and diversifies urban vitality. Economically, it improves the surrounding area, increases pedestrian traffic, and stimulates the local economy. Measurable project data includes the creation of a 45,000 m² linear park, 1.6 km of new shared paths, expansion of the bridge over the Barigui River with exclusive lanes for pedestrians and bicycles, 2,200 m² of new sidewalks, 1,750 m² of new squares, complete requalification of R. Germano Demuth, and the planting of over 450 tree seedlings and 500m² of native species ground cover.
